Master of Science Diploma Awarding Ceremony

22 October 2026

From scientific research to practical solutions: educating the next generation of professionals.

At CIHEAM Bari, education builds on the continuous exchange between scientific research, specialised training and practical application. This approach enables students to develop advanced knowledge and technical skills to understand complex challenges and translate scientific evidence into solutions for agricultural ecosystems and local communities.

Today, 31 students from 10 countries — Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Mauritania, Nigeria, Palestine, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Syria and Tunisia — celebrate the completion of their Master of Science programmes in:

  • Sustainable Water and Land Management in Agricultural Ecosystems
  • Integrated Pest Management of Fruit Trees and Vegetable Crops
  • Mediterranean Organic Agriculture

The diversity of their backgrounds reflects the international dimension of CIHEAM Bari’s educational mission, fostering the exchange of knowledge, experiences and perspectives across the Mediterranean and beyond. Their academic journey also highlights the importance of inclusion in scientific education: women account for 61.3% of MSc candidates, a significant figure in the agro-environmental sector. They represent the majority of students in both Integrated Pest Management and Mediterranean Organic Agriculture, underlining the important role of women in advancing research and innovation in these fields.

Throughout their academic journey, students have explored scientific approaches and engaged with applied research addressing some of the most pressing challenges facing agricultural and food systems. Their thesis projects investigate innovative applications of digital technologies, including drones, satellite imagery and artificial intelligence for crop monitoring and water management, alongside new approaches to plant health and integrated pest management. Other research explores sustainable agricultural practices, carbon credits, ecosystem services and the valorisation of natural resources, examining how environmental protection can go hand in hand with economic development.

The completion of these programmes marks an important step in the graduates’ professional development. The scientific knowledge, technical expertise and practical skills acquired at CIHEAM Bari will support their future contributions to research institutions, public administrations, agricultural organisations and local communities, where evidence-based approaches and innovative solutions are increasingly essential.

We are also extremely proud to highlight a double success for CIHEAM Bari: two of our students won the prestigious CIHEAM Best Thesis Award in 2024 and 2025, selected among 8 candidates proposed by the Directors of the 4 CIHEAM Institutes!

Congratulations to Khaled Oussama (Morocco, Water and Land Management MSc), winner of the 2024 Award for his research on "Enhancing evapotranspiration estimation through hyperspectral remote sensing and machine learning techniques", and to Khaoula Mektoubi (Morocco, Integrated Pest Management MSc), who earned the 2025 Award with her study on "Development of a sustainable phage-based biocontrol strategy for potato soft rot disease management".

Behind every qualified professional lies a foundation of scientific knowledge, research and specialised training. By investing in people and their expertise, CIHEAM Bari contributes to building the capacities needed to address tomorrow’s challenges.

Congratulations to all our graduates!
