From 27 to 30 April 2026, CIHEAM Bari participated in the third study visit of the OASIS Project, held in Izmir, Türkiye, and organised by the Izmir Commodity Exchange and the Izmir Agricultural Technology Center (ITTM). The initiative brought together project partners and SMEs from Italy, Spain, and Türkiye operating in the table olive and olive oil sector.
CIHEAM Bari was represented by Nuray Baser and Anna Maria D’Onghia, together with four Italian olive oil companies: Mossa Domenica DI., Le Tre Colonne, Oleificio Sannicola S.r.l., and Masoni Becciu.
The study visit provided an important opportunity for international exchange and cooperation, focusing on sustainability, technological innovation, and the valorisation of the Mediterranean olive and olive oil value chain. Throughout the programme, participants visited research institutions, innovative companies, and local agri-food businesses, gaining insights into sustainable production systems, olive oil extraction technologies, biodiversity conservation, and innovative agri-food business models.
Among the main activities, participants attended meetings at the İZQ Entrepreneurship Center in Izmir and visited the Olive Research Institute Gene Bank and the Olive Research Institute, where discussions focused on olive genetic resources, research activities, and sustainable cultivation practices. The group also visited HAUS Centrifuge Technologies, specialised in olive oil extraction technologies, and the SME Oktav Avilo in Aydın.
The programme also included cultural and technical visits to the Köstem Olive Oil Museum, the UZBAŞ Arboretum, Hiç Urla, and MMMG Winery, concluding with participation in the international Olivtech Fair dedicated to innovations and technologies in the olive and olive oil sector.
CIHEAM Bari’s participation contributed to strengthening cooperation among Mediterranean stakeholders, supporting capacity-building activities, international networking, and the dissemination of sustainable practices within the olive oil sector, in line with the objectives of the OASIS Project.
