Si parlerà di lotta integrata al marine litter e inquinamento costiero, di nuove strategie per contrastarli e dell’esperienza compiuta in Salento nel corso dell’evento conclusivo del progetto COMMON, che si terrà il prossimo 2 marzo (ore 17.00), nella Sala Consiliare del Comune di Castrignano del Capo (Lecce).
Obiettivo principale di COMMON (COastal Management and MOnitoring Network for tackling marine litter in Mediterranean sea) -progetto finanziato dal programma ENI CBC Med- la riduzione del marine litter attraverso l’utilizzo dei principi della Gestione Integrata delle Zone Costiere (ICZM) in 5 aree pilota di Italia, Libano e Tunisia, allo scopo di tutelare il Mediterraneo dai rifiuti marini, pianificando l’uso e il monitoraggio delle risorse, grazie all’approccio partecipativo che ha coinvolto anche le comunità locali, con l’ambizione di sperimentare un modello potenzialmente trasferibile in tutto il Bacino mediterraneo. L’area pilota italiana è il tratto di costa tra Taranto e Otranto, dove il CIHEAM Bari ha svolto attività di monitoraggio, campionamento ed elaborazione partecipata dei piani locali. Nella zona costiera salentina, peraltro, il CIHEAM Bari, da tempo presente grazie alla sua sede di Tricase, è impegnato in numerose iniziative di ricerca e di cooperazione territoriale e transfrontaliera.
Le azioni progettuali che il CIHEAM Bari ha realizzato si sono estese lungo 250 km di costa, che presentano un alto valore in termini di biodiversità, grazie anche alla presenza del coralligeno e di numerose grotte sommerse. L’area costiera presa in esame, se da un lato garantisce elevati flussi turistici, dall’altro lato pone di fronte al problema della gestione dei rifiuti. E a proposito di rifiuti, grazie alle campagne di raccolta organizzate da COMMON, sono state rimosse 23 tonnellate di materiali inquinanti, perlopiù di plastica.
L’incontro del 2 marzo prossimo sarà aperto da Maurizio Raeli, direttore del CIHEAM Bari, Francesco Terlizzese, capo sezione della Polizia marittima di Santa Maria di Leuca, Francesco Petracca, sindaco di Castrignano del Capo, Roberto Calabrese, consigliere delegato all’ambiente del comune di Castrignano del Capo.
Dei risultati del progetto COMMON relazioneranno Ludovica Nardelli e Antonio Trani, ricercatori del CIHEAM Bari. L’esperto di ecologia marina, Raffaele De Giorgi, presenterà la piattaforma Coastal city network. Aldo Di Mola, dirigente del servizio programma FEAMP della Regione Puglia, Stefano Piraino, professore del Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Biologiche ed Ambientali (DISTEBA) UNISALENTO e Giuseppe Internò, presidente dell’associazione Plasticaqquà di Taranto parleranno della gestione dei rifiuti marini in Puglia, dei monitoraggi ambientali e della gestione integrata delle zone costiere. Le conclusioni saranno affidate ad Anna Grazia Maraschio, assessore all’Ambiente della Regione Puglia.

The project was launched in February 2021 with the aim of contributing to the social development of local communities in Dakar and Kampala.
Environmental and socio-economic policies should be considered the regulating elements of economic growth and the preconditions for making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (ref. to SDG 11).
In many Regions and Countries, the vulnerability of local communities is increasing to the detriment of resilience and environmental sustainability, but the participation of people and communities in decision-making is very effective to build resilient and inclusive societies.
In Senegal and Uganda, small and micro-enterprises are already playing a vital role in promoting and implementing economic alternatives that allow for social equity in the economy. The green and blue economy vision emphasizes the need to improve human well-being and social equity, while reducing environmental risks and ecological scarcities. The focus is for instance on transport, agriculture, forestry, fisheries, marine and coastal resources that need development policies alongside strategies to address climate mitigation and adaptation. The dialogue between institutions and communities is any case crucial to make societies resilient, facilitate multi-stakeholder approach, be able to respond to economic crises and natural disasters by putting ecosystems, social equity and poverty reduction at the forefront.
Dalla ristorazione collettiva passano le scelte alimentari di milioni di italiani, contando le mense scolastiche, ospedaliere e aziendali, luoghi nodali di educazione alimentare, in cui poter fare cultura e formazione sulla corretta alimentazione rappresentata dalla Dieta mediterranea.
La ristorazione collettiva opera lungo l’intera filiera agroalimentare e può condizionarla in maniera significativa, impattando significativamente tutte le dimensioni della sostenibilità alimentare, assumendo un ruolo preponderante con la sempre maggiore tendenza a mangiare fuori casa per motivi di lavoro e per piacere.
Dando seguito al side-event “La ristorazione collettiva come strumento culturale per promuovere la dieta Mediterranea: Gusto, qualità, cucina, territori, innovazione, tracciabilità, spreco alimentare, valore del cibo”, tenutosi nell’ambito della 3° Conferenza Mondiale sulla Rivitalizzazione della Dieta Mediterranea, organizzato dal CIHEAM Bari, nel Settembre 2022, venerdì 24 febbraio si svolgerà a Palazzo Ferrajoli (Roma) il primo convegno che si prefigge di attivare le necessarie sinergie per promuovere la ristorazione collettiva da semplice erogatore di servizi a strumento culturale di educazione e formazione, promuovendo congiuntamente i molteplici benefici sostenibili della dieta Mediterranea, attraverso un programma di incontri istituzionali e scientifici, progetti di ricerca, formazione ed educazione, eventi di promozione e campagne di comunicazione.
Il Convegno, intitolato “LA RISTORAZIONE COLLETTIVA COME STRUMENTO CULTURALE PER PROMUOVERE LA DIETA MEDITERRANEA” vedrà la partecipazione di stakeholders, pubblici e privati, riconosciuti per il loro impegno ed esperienza a livello nazionale e regionale. Intende essere il primo di una serie di momenti di dialogo e confronto tra esperti, altamente qualificati e rappresentativi delle realtà italiane operative nei settori della ristorazione collettiva, della dieta Mediterranea e del Made in Italy che collaborando insieme potrebbero diventare un asset strategico vincente per il Paese su cui puntare e fare investimenti.
Al convegno, all’interno del quale è previsto l’intervento istituzionale da parte del Ministro dell’Agricoltura, Sovranità Alimentare e Foreste, Francesco Lollobrigida, parteciperanno, tra gli altri, il direttore del CIHEAM Bari, Maurizio Raeli e l’Amministratore principale del CIHEAM Bari, Roberto Capone.
Collective catering services are connected with the whole food supply chain and can have a significant impact on any dimension of food sustainability; they are becoming increasingly popular with the growing trend to eat out for work and leisure.
As a follow-up to the side-event ‘Collective catering as a cultural tool to promote the Mediterranean diet: Taste, quality, cuisine, territories, innovation, traceability, food waste, food value’, held during the 3rd World Conference on the Revitalisation of the Mediterranean Diet, hosted by CIHEAM Bari, in September 2022, a conference will be held at Palazzo Ferrajoli (Rome) on Friday 24 February. The aim is to create the synergies required to turn collective catering from a simple service provider into a new cultural tool for education and training. This will be the first of a series of initiatives including institutional and scientific meetings, research, training and education projects, promotional events and communication campaigns to promote the multiple sustainable benefits of the Mediterranean diet.
The Conference, titled “COLLECTIVE CATERING AS A CULTURAL TOOL TO PROMOTE THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET” will bring together public and private stakeholders, who are acknowledged for their commitment and experience at national and regional level. This will be the starting point of a continuing dialogue and exchange between highly qualified experts in the field of food service, the Mediterranean diet and ‘Made in Italy’ industry. Working together, they could generate a valuable and strategic wealth for the country to focus on and invest in.
The Italian Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida will take part in the conference for an opening address. CIHEAM Bari’s director Maurizio Raeli, and CIHEAM Bari's principal administrator Roberto Capone will also attend the meeting.
Bari, 20 February 2023 - A path towards the development of training and research projects and programmes focused on the most precious and vital resource is now launched in Puglia. As early as March 2023, a mini-master's degree is set to be jointly delivered by the Water Academy, the centre of excellence for culture and training of Acquedotto Pugliese (AQP).
An MoU was signed today at Palazzo dell'Acqua in Bari by Acquedotto Pugliese, the Department of Civil, Environmental, Land, Building and Chemical Engineering of Politecnico di Bari (DICATECh), CIHEAM Bari (the Italian Institute of the International Centre for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Studies), the Water Research Institute (IRSA-CNR), and the Union of Mediterranean Universities (UNIMED).
The signatories pledged to cooperate on training, research and development activities building on their different and yet complementary expertise. AQP, CIHEAM Bari, UNIMED, IRSA-CNR and DICATECh will implement joint initiatives, also involving companies and public bodies. An exchange of students, lecturers and researchers for study and research visits is included in the agreement as part of institutional training activities. The partnership will allow working side by side in Master of Science programmes, in scientific publications and sharing of scientific information and documents. Moreover, the MoU stipulates that signatories’ facilities be made available for joint research and training programmes, events, scientific and outreach meetings, workshops and seminars, to be held in cooperation with other Italian and foreign institutions.
‘This is a landmark agreement, which initiates an innovative high-calibre international project, bringing together Europe and the Mediterranean, academia and research, with the largest water utility in Europe - says Francesca Portincasa, Director General of Acquedotto Pugliese. The agreement will come into effect in early March, with the launch of a mini-master's programme that will kick-off the collaboration of our Water Academy ’.
‘Water is an increasingly emerging issue and engaging in cooperation with leading institutions, is crucial for us - emphasises Professor Leonardo Damiani from DICATECh, Politecnico di Bari. Incidentally, our department recently submitted a project that aims to establish a hub in Puglia to promote cooperation, training and research on environmental issues. Therefore, a Water School is an important step forward'.
‘IRSA-CNR Director Simona Rossetti pointed out that ‘a sound water resource management requires 'adequate 'governance' of the area, clear regulations and efficient technical services. This is only possible with the support of scientific research that provides knowledge to aid decision and law making. Technical and scientific training of water industry professionals also plays a key role to increase an understanding of the cause-and-effect interplay of human actions. Extending training and up-skilling also to professionals within the international water sector will help attain the UN Strategic Development Goals in those countries where their achievement is more challenging. Therefore, the CNR Water Research Institute has warmly welcomed the initiative launched by AQP’.
Attending the meeting with CIHEAM Bari Director Maurizio Raeli, the Deputy Director Nicola Lamaddalena underlined that ‘this initiative has the potential to face real needs of two different sectors: drinking water and irrigation. Both are fundamental and strategic. We cannot overemphasise the current transformation of agriculture and agrifood industry, with water reuse and water saving taking centre stage'.
‘This MoU is meant to create synergy between the industrial and knowledge dimension - concluded Marcello Scalisi, Director of UNIMED - in a perfect matching. This is the best and most concrete way to foster mutual exchange and transfer of expertise in a strategic sector such as water'.
The Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) will sponsor the first event due to take place in March.
Firmato l’accordo tra AQP, CIHEAM Bari, UNIMED, IRSA-CNR e DICATECh per sviluppare progetti di formazione, ricerca e cooperazione sul presente e sul futuro dell’acqua
Bari, 20 febbraio 2023 – Prende vita in Puglia un percorso per lo sviluppo di progetti e programmi di formazione e ricerca orientati sul bene più prezioso e vitale. Già nel mese di marzo 2023 è previsto l’avvio di un mini-master in collaborazione con la Water Academy, il centro di eccellenza di cultura e formazione di Acquedotto Pugliese (AQP).
Il patto è stato firmato oggi nel Palazzo dell’Acqua a Bari da Acquedotto Pugliese, Dipartimento di Ingegneria Civile, Ambientale, del Territorio, Edile e di Chimica del Politecnico di Bari (DICATECh), CIHEAM Bari (sede italiana del Centro Internazionale di Alti Studi Agronomici Mediterranei), Istituto di Ricerca sulle Acque (IRSA-CNR), e Unione delle Università del Mediterraneo (UNIMED).
L’accordo impegna i soggetti sottoscrittori a collaborare in attività di formazione, ricerca e sviluppo nei settori diversi e complementari di ciascun firmatario. AQP, CIHEAM Bari, UNIMED, IRSA-CNR e DICATECh attiveranno iniziative congiunte, anche in collaborazione con aziende ed enti pubblici. Fa parte dell’intesa anche lo scambio di studenti, docenti e ricercatori per visite di studio e ricerca nell’ambito delle proprie attività istituzionali di formazione. La collaborazione consentirà anche di lavorare fianco a fianco nell’ambito di programmi di Master of Science, nel realizzare pubblicazioni scientifiche e scambiarsi informazioni e documenti di carattere scientifico. L’intesa prevede infine la messa a disposizione delle strutture per la conduzione di programmi di ricerca e di formazione comuni, oltre ad iniziative, eventi scientifici e di divulgazione, workshop e seminari, che saranno anche realizzati in collaborazione con altre istituzioni italiane e straniere.
“È un’intesa storica, che dà vita a un progetto innovativo, di valore e portata internazionali, coinvolgendo - sostiene la Direttrice Generale di Acquedotto Pugliese, Francesca Portincasa - Europa e Mediterraneo, il mondo accademico e della ricerca, assieme al più grande Acquedotto del continente. Il protocollo sarà attivo già a marzo, con un mini-master che mette in moto la collaborazione della nostra Water Academy”.
“L’acqua è un tema emergente ed avviare una cooperazione con istituzioni importanti - aggiunge il professor Leonardo Damiani del DICATECh - Politecnico di Bari - diventa fondamentale per noi. Fra l’altro, come Dipartimento, recentemente abbiamo presentato un progetto che ha l’obiettivo di costituire un hub pugliese per la cooperazione, la formazione e la ricerca sulle questioni ambientali. La Scuola dell’Acqua, dunque, è uno step importante”.
“Una corretta gestione delle risorse idriche ha necessità – sottolinea la Direttrice di IRSA-CNR Simona Rossetti - di una "governance" del territorio adeguata, normative chiare e servizi tecnici all'altezza. Tutto questo non può esistere senza il supporto della ricerca scientifica che fornisca le basi conoscitive alle decisioni ed alla attività legislativa. Un ruolo fondamentale viene svolto anche dalla formazione tecnico-scientifica degli operatori del settore, allo scopo di diffondere la comprensione delle complesse interazioni causa-effetto insite nelle azioni antropiche. L'estensione di questa attività di formazione e aggiornamento anche ad operatori internazionali permette di mettere in pratica il raggiungimento degli Strategic Development Goals, lanciati dalle Nazioni Unite, negli Stati ove tale realizzazione è oggettivamente più complessa. Per questi motivi l'Istituto di Ricerca sulle Acque del CNR ha aderito con entusiasmo all'iniziativa lanciata da AQP”.
“È un’iniziativa capace di affrontare le esigenze - spiega il direttore aggiunto del CIHEAM Bari, Nicola Lamaddalena, intervenendo all’incontro con il Direttore Maurizio Raeli - di due filiere diverse: il potabile e l’irriguo. Promoting sustainable tourism, preserving and protecting natural resources in areas featuring ancient olive trees, and raising awareness at local and interregional level of the cultural heritage related to traditional olive growing, rural activities and culinary traditions are some of the objectives of the INTERREG IPA CBC Cross Border Olive (CBO). By implementing a set of relevant good practices, the project has helped create conscious traveller routes, carry out landscape protection activities, develop knowledge maps and support rural development programmes aiming to enhance ancient olive groves in Italy, Albania and Montenegro.
In particular, the experts focused their work on sustainable oil and cultural routes in Albania, Montenegro and Molise, where the environment, nature tourism and cultural values create the ideal balance for sustainable development. On the other hand, the link with tour operators and local promotion initiatives has strengthened interregional relations and synergies brought up by the project thereby encouraging local and central governments to invest in a unique heritage: age-old olive groves, which generate wealth and embody the 'Mediterranean' brand.
In order to take stock of the activities undertaken and to build further initiatives under the new INTERREG IPA SOUTH ADRIATIC 2021 - 2027 programme, CIHEAM Bari is organising a conference on Eco-sustainable enhancement of ancient olive groves: the experience of the Cross Border Olive project, on 25 February at AlbergaBici (Ostuni), in the Coastal Dunes Park.
Representatives of CIHEAM Bari, Puglia Region - Managing Authority of the INTERREG IPA SOUTH ADRIATIC 2021 - 2027 projects, University of Tirana (Albania), URBAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE (Albania), Municipality of Bar (Montenegro), Valdanos Park (Montenegro), Venafro Park (IS, Italy), Coastal Dunes Park (Ostuni) will attend the meeting, which will kick off at 9.30 am. Local agricultural entrepreneurs (olive growers, oil millers, bottlers, etc.), tour operators, eco-tourists (cyclists, trekkers, etc.), Local Action Groups, among others, are invited to participate.
This meeting will present the results achieved to date by the Cross Border Olive Project and the new INTERREG IPA SOUTH ADRIATIC 2021 - 2027 programe. The selection criteria and ways of involving stakeholders, the management of a historical olive park (problems, trade-offs and results), the pathways for establishing and regulating parks and reserves as an opportunity for the development of sustainable tourism, the community maps and their social function will also be discussed. The conference will be closed with a guided bike tour across local ancient olive trees.
Promuovere attività turistiche sostenibili, conservare e proteggere le risorse naturali nelle aree con ulivi secolari, aumentare la consapevolezza locale e interregionale sul patrimonio culturale legato all'olivicoltura tradizionale, alle attività rurali e alle tradizioni culinarie sono alcuni degli obiettivi dell’INTERREG IPA CBC Cross Border Olive (CBO) che, attraverso una serie di buone pratiche, ha realizzato percorsi turistici consapevoli, attività di tutela del paesaggio, mappe conoscitive e programmi di sviluppo rurale per la valorizzazione degli oliveti secolari in Italia, Albania e Montenegro.
Gli esperti, in particolare, hanno lavorato per realizzare percorsi sostenibili oleo-culturali in Albania, Montenegro e Molise, in cui ambiente, turismo naturalistico e valori culturali creano il giusto mix per uno sviluppo sostenibile. Il legame con i tour operator e le iniziative di promozione locale, inoltre, rinsaldano i rapporti interregionali e le sinergie create dal progetto e influenzano i governi locali e centrali nell’investire su un patrimonio unico: gli oliveti secolari, generatori di ricchezza e portatori del marchio del “Mediterraneo”.
Per fare il punto sulle attività realizzate e costruire ulteriori iniziative basate sul nuovo programma Interreg IPA SOUTH ADRIATIC 2021 – 2027, il CIHEAM Bari organizza una conferenza su La valorizzazione ecosostenibile degli oliveti secolari: l’esperienza del progetto Cross Border Olive, il prossimo 25 febbraio ad AlbergaBici (Ostuni), nel Parco delle Dune Costiere.
Ai lavori, che saranno aperti alle ore 9.30, interverranno i rappresentanti di CIHEAM Bari, Regione Puglia -Autorità di Gestione per i progetti INTERREG IPA SOUTH ADRIATIC 2021 – 2027, Università di Tirana (Albania), URBAN RESEARCH INSTITUTE (Albania), Municipalità di Bar (Montenegro), Parco di Valdanos (Montenegro), Parco di Venafro (IS, Italia), Parco delle Dune Costiere (Ostuni). Saranno invitati a partecipare, tra gli altri, imprenditori agricoli locali (olivicoltori, frantoiani, imbottigliatori, etc.), operatori del settore turistico, fruitori del turismo ecologico (cicloturisti, trekker, etc.), Gruppi di Azione Locale.
Durante il meeting saranno presentati i risultati ad oggi raggiunti dal Progetto Cross Border Olive e la nuova programmazione INTERREG IPA SOUTH ADRIATIC 2021 – 2027. Si parlerà, inoltre, di criteri di selezione e modalità di coinvolgimento degli stakeholder, gestione di un parco olivicolo storico (problemi, compromessi e risultati), percorsi istitutivi e legislativi di parchi e riserve come occasione di sviluppo turistico sostenibile, mappe di comunità e loro funzione sociale. Il convegno si concluderà con una ciclopasseggiata guidata tra gli oliveti secolari.
NATAE (Fostering Agro-ecological transition in North Africa through multi-actors design, evaluation and networking) is a newly awarded project under the Horizon Europe programme. Based on a multi-actor and interdisciplinary approach, this four-year project will generate new insights for assessing practices that are inspired by agro-ecology in a multidimensional way and at multiple scales (from production systems to territory and value chains).
The aims are to identify, evaluate and eventually promote the best observed and experimented combinations of practices inspired by agro-ecology in North Africa (i), and to set up a Mediterranean agro-ecological network for knowledge exchanges and advocacy at regional level (ii).
The approach is based on Multi-Actor Labs (MALs), as territories that are anchored in specific agro-ecosystems of North Africa. Production of scientific data and analyses in the field of agronomics, sociology and economics will inform on the potential for agro-ecological transition in the region. NATAE will support the cocreation and co-learning with multiple actors in MALs as well as concrete policies by informing largely with the opportunities provided by an agro-ecological transition perspective. It will also organize the capitalization and transfer of generated knowledge to education and extension. NATAE will further develop an Atlas platform on the performance of practices inspired by agroecology with regards to the farms, the landscape and the food systems.
Coordinated by CIHEAM Montpellier, NATAE gathers 23 partners from Europe and North Africa regions (academic institutes, international organisations, NGOs, technical institutes).

The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG), with the Government of Cabo Verde and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), will convene its 2nd International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture on the theme, ‘Making Agriculture Resilient to Climate Change: Water Scarcity, an Opportunity for Action and Collaboration.
WASAG is an FAO-hosted partnership, which aims to support governments and stakeholders in the achievement of the water related targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, with particular emphasis on SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation) and SDG 2 (zero hunger). WASAG also contributes to SDG 1 (no poverty), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 15 (life on land), and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals).
The second WASAG International Forum provides the setting for developing collaborative actions as solutions to the increasing challenges posed by climate change and the resulting water scarcity, in order to make agriculture more resilient. The Forum aims to:

Il Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture (WASAG), in collaborazione con il Governo di Capo Verde e l'Organizzazione delle Nazioni Unite per l'Alimentazione e l'Agricoltura (FAO), organizzerà il 2° Forum internazionale sulla scarsità d’acqua in agricoltura sul tema "Rendere l'agricoltura resiliente ai cambiamenti climatici: La scarsità d’acqua, un'opportunità di azione e collaborazione".
Il WASAG è un partenariato ospitato dalla FAO che ha lo scopo di sostenere i governi e i portatori d’interesse nel raggiungimento degli obiettivi relativi all'acqua dell'Agenda 2030 per lo sviluppo sostenibile, con particolare attenzione all'SDG 6 (acqua potabile e servizi igienico-sanitari) e all'SDG 2 (fame zero). Il WASAG contribuisce anche all’avanzamento dell'SDG 1 (povertà zero), dell'SDG 13 (azione per il clima), dell'SDG 15 (vita sulla terra) e dell'SDG 17 (partenariato mondiale per lo sviluppo sostenibile).
Il secondo Forum internazionale WASAG offrirà l’occasione di identificare azioni collaborative per affrontare le crescenti sfide poste dal cambiamento climatico e dalla conseguente scarsità d'acqua, al fine di favorire un’agricoltura più resiliente. Il Forum si propone di:

The project "Bio.Re.Goal - To enhance the institutional and regulatory framework for organic food production in Albania" will come to an end on 3 February, with an international conference hosted at Rogner Hotel in Tirana that will bring together all the Balkan countries.
The project was co-financed by the CEI - Central European Initiative/KEP - Know-How Exchange Programme fund at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), made available by the Italian Government, coordinated by CIHEAM Bari and supported by MASAF - the Italian Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry. Experts from the two Italian institutions worked jointly with officials from the Albanian Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to finalize a new legislation on organic farming in line with the new sector regulation (EU) 2018/848. An activity that will expand relations between this country and the EU countries and improve trade in the sector, especially in view of Albania's accession to the European Union.
The conference in Tirana "Perspectives and challenges connected to the implementation of the new EU regulation" is organized by CIHEAM Bari in cooperation with MARD, MOAN - Mediterranean Organic Agriculture Network, and IFOAM Organics Europe.
It will be attended, among others, by the Albanian Minister of Agriculture, Frida Krifca. The focus will be on the current state of play and future prospects of organic farming, taking into account the new legislation, and organic farming in Albania and the whole Western Balkan area. The initiatives underway in the region will be presented thanks to the participation of the SWG - Regional Rural Development Standing Working Group in South-Eastern Europe and of experts from various countries.
Imports from third countries and group certification, a novelty for the European Union, will also be discussed. To conclude, a round table will explore the possible alignment of laws in the different Balkan countries with the new European regulation, aiming to promote a more harmonized and fairer market, in the East and in the West, and to encourage an increasingly sustainable agriculture which is able to protect biodiversity, face the global challenge of climate change, and meet the growing consumer demand for food products that ensure well-being of people and of the planet.
