Sustainable and Innovative Food Systems: The Mediterranean Diet as a Tool for Tourism and Local Development in EUSAIR Communities

26 September 2025

On 29–30 September 2025, CIHEAM Bari will host the event “Sustainable and Innovative Food Systems: The Mediterranean Diet as a Tool for Tourism and Local Development in EUSAIR Communities.”

This two-day workshop, organized by the EUSAIR Presidency of North Macedonia and DG REGIO, in collaboration with CIHEAM Bari and IFOAM, will bring together key stakeholders from regional, national, and EU levels. The event aims to explore how the Mediterranean Diet, recognized by UNESCO and FAO, can serve as a strategic driver for sustainable tourism, rural development, youth engagement, and food system innovation across the Adriatic-Ionian region.

The programme will feature high-level panels, interactive workshops, and best practice showcases focusing on three main areas:

  • Agrotourism, ecotourism, and bio-districts
  • Organic, origin, and local quality food
  • Youth, skills, and digital tools in food and tourism

The event represents a unique opportunity to exchange knowledge, strengthen regional cooperation, and highlight the role of sustainable food systems in supporting local development.
